Cost-effective, easy to fit, and designed to be removable, dentures remain one of the most popular ways to replace missing or extracted teeth. Available as both ‘full’ and ‘partial’ sets, dentures allow patients to replace teeth in an affordable way.
Full dentures can replace a full arch of teeth and can be used on both the upper and lower jaw. When used on the upper jaw, the denture will cover the roof of the mouth, while dentures for the lower jaw are shaped more like a horseshoe. Full dentures can be held in place either by suction or via the help of an adhesive such as dental glue. At Shadwell Dental Care, we also offer implant retained dentures.
Partial dentures are used to replace individual teeth, and can be used on non-adjacent gaps in the mouth. Rather than covering the gum, and being held in place with an adhesive, partial dentures are attached via metal clasps, using the natural surrounding teeth to secure the prosthetic tooth or teeth in place.
Most dentures last up to 10 years with proper oral care and hygiene.
Dentures should be removed after eating and given a rinse and should be cleaned once a day using a soft brush and cleaning solution. They should also be removed and disinfected overnight in a solution, making sure to completely remove the dental adhesive, if being used.
